Current US Hemp Legislation: There is hemp legislation pending in many states in the US. North Dakota may be the first state to grow hemp, but Bill AB 1147 was vetoed in  November by Gov. Swarzenegger. He had spoken about the bill in a positive light, and the Hemp Industry thought that he might sign the legislation, making it legal for California farmers to grow industrial hemp. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the HIA (Hemp Industries Association), Assemblymen Mark Leno (San Francisco), and Chuck Devore (Newport Beach), co-authors of the bill, growing industrial hemp in California may become a reality. The bill will be reintroduced in 2007.
